Ambergris Caye's location makes it an absolutely fantastic place for its deep blue water fishing.

Hook up on marlin, sailfish, wahoo, dorado, kingfish, grouper and more. All our fishing trips start at the Portofino dock, which is located in less than ½ mile from the barrier reef. So there is no better location to start your deep sea fishing adventure!

Be a responsible fisher:
At Portofino Resort, we encourage our guests to "Catch and release" which is popular here in our waters. Once you land your catch, there's a decision to make -- keep it or release it… We encourage all our guests to keep your catch only, if the fish you caught is of a legal species and legal size and will be consumed by you during lunch or dinner.

MARLIN:
From November till June, Marlin are found near surface in open water outside the reef, to a depth of 650 feet.

SAILFISH:
Are found outside the reef, right along the drop off and can be caught from January - June particularly during the week of the full moon in April and May.

WAHOO:
Can be found in Belize waters all year around. The best months are November true March and are found near surface in open water, outside the reef to a depth of 650 feet.

DORADO:
From May till October, they are found near surface in open water, outside the reef to a depth of 650 feet at areas where the seaweed is floating in.

KINGFISH:
Best caught via trolling and spin casting in April trough June. They can be found near surface in open water inside and outside the reef.

GROUPER:
From December till April Grouper can be found in coral reefs and other hard bottom areas with depths of 30 - 300 feet.

Go outside the reef for the Big Game Species… You can choose to go on a full day or half a day.
